ParosVillas Vol. 3 is a special edition presenting 15 luxury vacation houses in Paros and Antiparos, as a documentation of the best recent architectural projects in the two celebrated Cycladic islands. Over the past few decades, Paros and Antiparos have emerged as benchmarks in contemporary architecture, with the creation of significant projects that have gained international recognition in the realm of vacation residences. However, as these two islands are rapidly transforming into popular tourist destinations, the surge in demand and accelerated pace of construction jeopardize the delicate equilibrium between the natural landscape and human intervention.

The projects included in this volume demonstrate how architects are now tasked with confronting the challenges of the times, encompassing aspects such as scale, density, periodic usage patterns, and sustainability. The main responsibility extends to attentively listening to the needs of residents and visitors, while safeguarding the integrity of nature and heritage, engaging in respectful and measured discourse.

The 4th MykonosVillas bookazine is a bilingual luxury edition featuring 14 captivating summer retreats recently designed for the famous Cycladic island setting, by acclaimed architectural offices.

The houses of Mykonos form a contemporary architectural style, juxtaposing rough stone walls and white plastered volumes, angular or curved, textured, or smooth, where the inclusion of Cycladic typological elements results in aesthetically integrated architectural ensembles. Often built directly upon the natural bedrock, the stone masonry creates open-air formations, connecting the building with its environment, while differently oriented volumes and framed views, alterations of closed and open spaces, changing light and shadow, converse with the dominant features of the natural surrounding: Dry soil, the sea, and the wind.

The photographs selected for publication highlight the excellent construction quality of the houses, combining modern technological amenities with hand-crafted components, adapted to present-day conditions, such as stonework, pressed cement mortar, timber construction and paving.

Here, architects explore multiple negotiations between the building, the ground morphology, and the existing vernacular settlements, aiming at the proper integration into the place and its landscape by means of architectural syntax, materiality, and traditional building techniques.
