Sharp lines

The project is located in the heart of the Podil, on the first floor of the Bursa Hotel, in the historic centre of Kyiv, featuring a small, yet cozy music bar that attracts vinyl record enthusiasts and live-set lovers, becoming a hub for musicians and vinyl collectors from around the world.

 

Spatial Zoning

The space features simple and functional zoning: near the entrance, there’s a DJ booth and a vinyl collection showcase, the central space acts as a dance floor and finally, two bar counters are situated on either side of the space. The design includes eastern style features such as sharp lines, clean shapes as well as horizontal and vertical rhythms.

 

Lighting and Acoustic Design

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating this specific spatial atmosphere. A series of accent spots are used to illuminate the seating areas, while soft, linear lighting is used for the vinyl shelves and drink displays. Special emphasis is also placed in acoustic design, considering the hotel rooms located above the bar. The walls are cladded with thick plywood, while the ceiling’s overall height is lowered, becoming the supporting structure for all the light fixtures and ventilation system.

 

Materials & Aesthetics

The design follows the aesthetics of contemporary Japanese culture. The primary material used is dark plywood, which serves as the basis for the walls, the ceiling, which is also decorated with latticework, and furniture. Additionally, stainless steel is used for the countertops, the windows and chairs. Most of the decoration and furniture elements are custom-made by Ukrainian craftsmen.
