Playful light

The project concerned the renovation of a 70m² second-floor apartment near Lycabettus Hill. The design follows an open-plan layout, allowing natural light to penetrate deeply into the interior. To organize the unified space, emphasis was placed on transitional areas through the use of vibrant colors and textures. The kitchen was treated as an integrated piece of built-in furniture, while metal partitions and doors were designed to accommodate different living scenarios. Distinctive features of the 1970s apartment were preserved and complemented by more vibrant and industrial elements, resulting in a layered collage of materials.

Renovation Strategy

The primary intervention was the relocation of the kitchen in order to optimize the apartment’s spatial organization. In its original position, the kitchen obstructed the entrance, lacked visual and functional connection with the rest of the apartment, and suffered from insufficient light and limited size. Its relocation enabled the creation of an elongated entrance hallway and a generous, multifunctional storage element incorporating an entrance bench, wardrobe, washing machine, and general storage. The kitchen was conceived as a functional object rather than a separate room – integrated into the open plan and discreetly supporting everyday activities. It is directly connected to the dining area and positioned opposite the balcony door to benefit from improved natural light.

Functional Layout

The apartment is organized into three distinct zones. The first zone, comprising transitional spaces such as the hallway and storage areas, functions as a chromatic frame for the more restrained main spaces. A key intervention involved the removal of the wall separating the bedroom from the living area, revealing the building’s structural elements, including the central column and beams. In place of the original partition, a four-leaf metal door with fluted glass was introduced, referencing traditional wooden sliding partitions commonly found in Athenian apartments. The ribbed glass enhances the 1970s aesthetic while allowing light to diffuse throughout the space and providing privacy when needed.

Material Palette

The original mosaic floor, uncovered but heavily damaged by previous interventions, was replaced with turquoise tesserae tiles that enhance light reflection in these intermediate and darker areas. Birch veneer, selected for its expressive grain and warm yellow tones, was used for the woodwork, while the entrance threshold is defined by a burgundy accent.

The second zone includes the primary living spaces – living room, dining area, and bedroom – where the existing oak parquet flooring was repaired and retained. Other elements were designed to contrast with and emphasize the warmth of the wood, incorporating industrial finishes such as exposed concrete, metal elements (including sliding doors and shelving), glass, and chrome glossy details in lighting fixtures and hardware.

The third zone, encompassing the kitchen and bathroom, features Dionysos marble as the dominant material, a reference to materials already present in the apartment. In the kitchen, the marble was applied to both countertop and backsplash, creating vivid reflections that contrast with the matte off-white lacquered cabinetry. In the bathroom, 40×40 cm marble tiles were used to introduce a more playful interpretation of this timeless material.

Daily living

The overall approach conveys a contemporary residence of high aesthetic quality, where comfort, functionality, and materiality coexist in harmony, offering a living environment characterized by identity, calmness, and timeless value.

Design Philosophy

The apartment is located in the heart of Thessaloniki, on Palaion Patron Germanou Street. The new floor plan has been organized into distinct zones, responding to the everyday life of the family. A spacious common area, with direct access to the two openings on the main façade, accommodates a large kitchen with an island and dining area, along with a comfortable living room. A concealed bar and a small home office, flanked symmetrically by storage units for daily use, stand out for the character they add to the space.

Particular emphasis was placed on storage solutions, which were carefully designed both in terms of their external appearance and internal configuration, ensuring maximum spatial efficiency. The master bedroom includes a walk-in wardrobe, an additional workspace, and a private en-suite bathroom. Two children’s bedrooms and a larger shared bathroom complete the layout of the residence.

Custom Elements

Starting from the apartment’s existing morphology, a series of custom-built elements were designed to “dress” and resolve areas that required intervention. A characteristic example is the large structural beam that interrupted the open-plan space, which was reinterpreted as a coffered slab and seamlessly integrated into the overall composition. The decision to rely exclusively on custom-made furniture allowed for complete design freedom, without constraints in materials, dimensions, or standardized solutions, ensuring spatial coherence, functionality, and a unified aesthetic identity.

Materiality and Lighting

The combination of distinctive and diverse materials formed the core of the design concept, adding character and visual interest throughout the apartment while maintaining a balanced and harmonious result. Material transitions were used as a narrative tool, marking the passage from one space to another – such as the patterned tile in the entrance and hallway, which acts both as a clear threshold and as an introductory element to the living areas. Natural and artificial lighting were carefully studied to enhance textures and materials, while also shaping the appropriate atmosphere for everyday living.

Spatial transitions

Set within the distinctive setting of the Astir Vouliagmeni Marina, Bagatelle Athens redefines the relationship between architecture, the natural environment, and cultural heritage. The elegance of the French Riviera meets the geometric harmony of Greek architecture, shaping a space that goes beyond visual impact to engage all the senses.

Design Philosophy

The restaurant is located in Building B of the commercial zone, drawing primary inspiration from the sculptural forms of the yachts moored in the marina. Echoing their language, the façades are articulated through curved and folded planes -inclined or vertical- formed in smooth, white, exposed concrete, conveying a sense of movement and fluid energy. The luxury and brilliance of the yachts inform the material palette, expressed through striking glossy canopies made of specially treated aluminum that frame the retail units, as well as green Tinos marble pilasters that define and separate them.

Bagatelle Athens is conceived not merely as an elegant dining venue, but as a layered architectural experience -a stage for life composed of sequences, transitions, and strong spatial narratives. Transition is a key compositional principle: visitors do not simply enter the space but move through a succession of scenes that gradually unfold the overall experience. The massing is fluid and multi-layered, allowing the space to be perceived alternately as a lounge, a theatrical setting, or a serene, sunlit deck.

Functional Organization

The various zones -including the entrance, bar, dining area, terrace, and relaxed lounge- are not divided by rigid boundaries, but are seamlessly connected through subtle transitions, changes in level, and carefully choreographed lighting. Natural light is allowed to penetrate and diffuse without overwhelming the space, while artificial lighting operates scenographically, creating pockets of warmth and intimacy. The overall spatial journey, from the entrance to the terrace, is designed as a sensory progression, where materials, light, and atmosphere invite visitors to explore the space gradually. The first level of the restaurant functions primarily as a transitional threshold.

Furniture & Materials

The cloakroom, bar, and intimate seating areas establish an atmosphere of calm and privacy. The central staircase, defined by its dynamic form, acts as an acoustic capsule, offering a gradual transition into the vibrant environment of the upper level. There, the dining space, shaped by sculptural forms and refined detailing, emerges as a dialogue between cosmopolitan sophistication and Mediterranean restraint. On the terrace, the 360-degree panoramic views and direct engagement with natural light reinforce the connection between the architecture and the Vouliagmeni landscape. The Lounge, more relaxed yet equally refined, completes the concept of “Bagatelle on a Boat.”

Materiality reflects a contemporary reinterpretation of Mediterranean aesthetics: natural oak, woven cane, ceramics, and earthy tones such as terracotta and olive green, complemented by patinated metal elements and subtle geometric motifs inspired by Greek antiquity. The color palette balances organic warmth with atmospheric elegance, incorporating Aegean blues, ochres, and metallic reflections reminiscent of sunset hues over the sea. Ultimately, the space distinguishes itself through its restraint and the deliberate absence of thematic excess.

“Soul-specific” design

“An interior design project, even for a single apartment, carries with it the same complexity and responsibility as larger projects: it means interpreting desires, memories, and aspirations to transform them into space. It’s never about applying a pre-established model, but about building, step by step, a unique identity capable of generating quality of life. Each time, the result is different, surprising, and, to use a term from contemporary art, truly ‘soul-specific’.”

Pier Currà, Founder Pier Currà Architettura

Design Philosophy

Every corner of this apartment in the historic center of Forlì tells a story of creativity, color, and memory. The renovation transforms a 1960s home into a vibrant living space where a vintage soul meets contemporary pop accents, resulting in interiors that are both surprising and expressive.

Functional Layout

The double-height living room, flooded with natural light from a large window, forms the heart of the home. Morning light bounces off surfaces and details, enhancing the bold chromatic contrasts. The space is shaped by custom-made furniture that becomes architectural in itself: the striking orange staircase doubles as a sculptural bookcase, while the bespoke storage unit at the entrance acts as a visual and functional filter between the lowered hallway and the living area.

The kitchen celebrates color and craftsmanship. Entirely custom-designed, it is defined by deep blue cabinetry paired with a stainless-steel worktop. The flooring pays explicit homage to the 1970s through optical-patterned tiles, while a glass-brick wall filters light and introduces rhythmic geometric textures.

Materials & Furnishings

Throughout the apartment, interior design oscillates between memory and innovation. Original elements, such as the large window and the ceiling clad in exotic wood slats, have been carefully restored and enhanced, while bold color choices and bespoke furnishings create a cohesive narrative across the spaces. Pastel-toned bathrooms with cement tiles and red taps, a master bedroom distinguished by a custom burgundy wardrobe and white paneling, and an upper floor featuring a study that overlooks the living room and opens onto a balcony with a flower box, all contribute to a layered and imaginative domestic landscape. The result is a home that embraces its original identity while reinterpreting it with energy, personality, and lightness.

Organic aesthetic

The restaurant is located in the picturesque neighborhood of Ano Petralona, in the heart of Athens. Although close to the city’s bustling center, the project exudes an introverted charm, reflecting the warm atmosphere of its surroundings. The strong materiality, combined with a dark color palette, is carefully balanced with the organic interior, creating a welcoming and intimate space.

Functional layout

A key element of the design is the open kitchen at the rear of the restaurant, visible from every point within the interior. Against this backdrop, two dining areas are arranged on different levels, organized around a centrally positioned, curved open bar. Guests are able to observe the activity in the kitchen while experiencing the various design details and the interplay of materials across the surfaces.

The bar at the front of the restaurant serves as an inviting point of arrival before the dining areas. With three distinct seating options, guests may choose to sit along the central bar, directly facing the lively open kitchen, or in a cozy corner of the second dining room, which offers greater privacy and seclusion.

Custom-made elements

To enhance the distinct experience of each individual zone and to minimize distractions from external stimuli, semi-transparent curtains are used along the glazed façade, preventing direct visual contact with the busy street. The connection to the surroundings is achieved through an operable roof, which allows views of the sky and introduces a sense of openness and freshness into the dining area.

Materials & furnishings

The design concept focuses on texture, emphasizing the use of natural materials to infuse the space with authenticity. Vertical surfaces are clad in custom-made terracotta tiles, reinforcing the organic character, while the floors and the central bar feature rough-textured tiles. The main dining area is finished with custom-applied terrazzo, adding a playful note to the otherwise earthy, matte environment through its subtle reflections. Throughout the project, emphasis is placed on craftsmanship and handmade elements at every scale, from flooring to ceramic vases.

The lighting fixtures – wooden wall sconces and suspended ceramic pendants – as well as the ceramic decorative elements, were custom-designed and crafted to achieve the desired aesthetic. Upholstery fabrics, ranging from leather and suede to linen in a variety of tones, were carefully selected to enhance the natural and harmonious atmosphere of the space.

Dessert arcade

The central objective for the ground floor of a 1960s building in the Metropolis area was the creation of a “Sweet Arcade”: a multi-layered venue that would need to accommodate a production laboratory, a retail area, and a dessert restaurant.

Cultural Context

The concept that emerged during the design process drew inspiration from the Athenian arcade. This archetypal form of a covered yet freely accessible space seamlessly connects commerce, social gathering, and leisure. The first arcade built on Athenian soil, at Kapnikarea Square, was constructed in 1883 to designs by Ernst Ziller, within the four-storey neoclassical Melas Mansion, featuring a “glass-roofed passage” modeled after the Parisian galeries made of metal and glass.

Among the most vital nodes of commercial life, arcades were primarily thematic, functioning as hubs for specific activities or types of retail. Initially conceived as spaces for the concentration of goods, they ultimately evolved to “serve the pursuit of pleasure in the city, through strolling and other forms of entertainment.”

Design Philosophy

Inspired by the commercial arcade and motivated by its inclusive vibrancy, the pastry shop is designed primarily using metal and glass. It is articulated as a sequence of three distinct spatial units (shops), each with its own façade (shopfront) facing an elongated, central shared space -the arcade.

The olive-green arcade, measuring 9×3m and featuring the original mosaic flooring, forms along its entire outer edge the main, twin entrance. A slender, elongated structure placed along the central axis organizes movement, provides a functional counter surface, and supports suspended, illuminated planting that enhances the sense of a public, open space. Flanking the entrance and extending to the back, metal and textured glass define the shopfronts of the three units as well as the passage leading to the restrooms.

Spatial Organization & Materials

The retail shop on the left and the restaurant on the right are located behind two facing metal arches that act as thresholds to the respective spaces. In the first, a brightly lit central table of white marble displays the products, adjacent to a luminous wall of glass blocks that filters the constant activity of the laboratory beyond. In the second, warm orange tiles, wooden tables, and subdued lighting create an inviting dining room for à la carte desserts.

At the rear, behind a retractable partition, lies the production laboratory. It comes alive in the afternoon, when its lights are turned on and its window opens, revealing the chef -now visible to the public- preparing the sculptural plates, the true protagonists of the Sweet Arcade.

Simple aesthetic

For more than 120 years, Aigli has been a focal point of Athenian social life. Since its beginnings in 1904 as a small café beside the neoclassical Zappeion building, it has evolved into a shared point of reference for the city. The new Aigli draws on this legacy, while aiming to broaden its reach and become more inclusive, open, and dynamic.

Existing Building

The first step in shaping the design proposal was a careful analysis of the existing building and the public space of which it forms an integral part. This process led to the development of a design language that is both classical and contemporary, acknowledging and utilizing the existing decorative elements -columns, marble patterns, and intricate woodwork- without allowing them to take on a dominant role that would compromise everyday use.

While historically the building was inward-looking, the new design highlights the natural beauty of the surrounding gardens by opening up views and access wherever possible. A primary objective was for the architecture of the new Aigli to be unique and heterogeneous, with each of its diverse spaces -the All-Day Café, the restaurant, the cinema, the event, music, and art halls, among others- possessing a distinct identity, all connected through a shared “DNA” of design elements and materials.

Spatial Organization

The All-Day Café consists of both indoor and outdoor areas with a total capacity of 320 seats, drawing inspiration from the tradition of large cafés of the 19th century in Greece and Europe. Four key gestures organize and define the character of the project.

First, the interior floors and the walls up to bar height are clad in locally quarried green Tinos marble, with the marble edges left rough, as if in an outdoor garden. Second, a 20-meter-long marble bar dominates the historic space, incorporating stations for coffee, juices, cocktails, food, and a DJ booth. Third, a large interior window opens onto the central kitchen, creating a lively, theatrical backdrop within the dining area. Similar openings at the rear of the kitchen connect both the café and the kitchen to the garden. Finally, to further strengthen this connection, two large planters with ficus trees are positioned at the center of the hall.

In contrast to the vibrant atmosphere of the All-Day Café, the restaurant is conceived as a sequence of smaller spaces that foster intimacy and understated luxury. Nestled among the foliage of the garden trees, its interior and exterior areas are designed to fully embrace views of the surrounding landscape and the Acropolis. A key intention of the design was to ensure that visitors can fully experience and enjoy the natural beauty around them.

Materials & Furnishings

The existing red-and-white triangular marble floor pattern was revealed and restored, a geometry that is echoed in the contemporary wooden pattern of the ceiling. Along the perimeter, generous booth-style seating was designed, while a sculptural bar establishes a central axis around which the restaurant’s activity revolves. Layers of color and texture, expressed through custom-designed furniture and fabrics, contribute to a rich and welcoming dining atmosphere.

Handcrafted aesthetic

In designing the restaurant, the aim was to create a non-conventional space that would actively engage visitors in an experience highlighting the values of art, design, and gastronomy, translating them into tangible forms, materials, and textures.

Spatial Organization

The existing restaurant features a distinctive double-height space with a mezzanine and a spiral staircase, while its façades are clad with large metal openings that provide full visual permeability throughout the interior. Upon entering, visitors encounter the central dining zone, arranged in an open-plan layout with seating, the bar and its counter, and an open kitchen at the rear, allowing guests to observe the food preparation process.

With a strong emphasis on detail, custom-made marble tables were designed, along with stainless-steel chairs featuring cushions made of flexible gel, introducing an unusual, soft tactile quality. The floor is finished with a mosaic composed of various Greek marble fragments, combined with bespoke ceramic tiles by artist Vasilis Papageorgiou.

Materials & Furnishings

Although wood in its natural tone appears to dominate at first glance, the design also incorporates materials with a more robust character, such as stainless steel and marble, which are seamlessly absorbed by the warmth and softness of the wood.

A central feature of the space is a sculptural light tube that rises to the ceiling and draws the eye from every direction, even from outside the restaurant. A handcrafted wool-and-silk rug by artist Yannis Varelas adorns the wall in front of the luminous column, becoming a focal point through its rich chromatic variety. The interplay of these two key elements creates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, further enhanced by ambient lighting from smaller pendant fixtures and wall sconces.

Staircase Design

The stainless-steel staircase at the rear introduces a distinctive geometry to the space and leads visitors to the mezzanine, which is lined with wooden, wall-mounted wine libraries. This function extends to the basement as well, where the entrance resembles a wooden tunnel illuminated by a 90-degree light tube that continues the vertical column from the ground floor.

Simple aesthetic

Skrew is an all-day bar-restaurant designed for relaxation and socializing, serving as a favorite meeting point for its guests from morning until late at night. The owners’ desire for a fresh yet timeless space, housed within an existing industrial building, defined the overall design approach.

Design Philosophy

The interior preserves the restrained aesthetic of exposed concrete while incorporating distinctive features, such as a striking bar set against a 3.5-meter-high backdrop and a counter clad in tin. The dining area offers a variety of seating options, including banquettes paired with custom-designed marble tables and vintage chairs. At the rear, the open kitchen with its glass frontage adds vibrancy and a sense of interaction. The presence of plants, combined with a diverse selection of furniture and architectural elements, creates a layered experience, with different spatial qualities unfolding in every corner.

Spatial Layout

A key element of the restaurant is the sculptural metal staircase leading to the secluded mezzanine, which also functions as a display surface for wines. Its industrial character reinforces the identity of the building, while its bold color introduces an artistic accent within the otherwise neutral setting. The upper level accommodates a lounge area, ideal for working or reading during the day, as well as a retail corner featuring a curated selection of accessories and clothing.

Material Palette

The existing terrazzo flooring, with its three-color composition, lends a nostalgic touch to the space. Yellow leather details on the bar stools complement the overall color palette. The combination of diverse styles and textures -raw concrete, polished cement, glass blocks, and the leather-clad bar front- creates an atmospheric and dramatic setting. The final result is a two-level space that blends pop and classic culture, luxury and informality, quiet daytime moments and vibrant nightlife.

Spatial transparency

The calmness, transparency, and clarity of this project create an atmosphere of repose within the heterogeneous and burdened environment of the city and the apartment building.

Existing Layout

The apartment is located in an apartment building dating back to 1967, in Kolonaki. The typical floor plan of the period defined five distinct spaces: bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, and entrance hall. A double-leaf sliding door between the bedroom and the living room unified, to a certain extent, the two main spaces, while all areas were connected through the hall. Under these conditions, the service zone of the entrance and wet areas was cut off from natural light and from views toward the exterior environment. The equal distribution of surface area between the two main spaces, along with their rigid boundaries, limited habitation to small rooms with restricted visual connections and natural light.

Spatial Organization

The new layout unifies all individual spaces of the apartment, retaining only the bathroom as a separate room. From the entrance, the city becomes visible through the balcony door and window, which are now aligned consecutively along the interior façade facing the street. Solid partition walls are replaced by perforated metal elements of slender sections, such as the bookcase that occupies the center of the plan, as well as by movable elements, including sliding and concealed doors, allowing natural light to diffuse throughout the space and visual connections to multiply. All new vertical surfaces -sliding partitions, metal bookcase, wardrobes, cabinets, and curtains- extend from floor to ceiling, unifying the space in section as well and creating hidden niches and storage areas.

Materials & Custom Structures

Each individual point of this small dwelling accommodates more than one activity. The kitchen worktop also functions as a dining table, while the desk doubles as a seat for gazing out of the window. During the day, the bed becomes part of the living area, while at night it is isolated within a quiet white sleeping box. The central metal structure has two faces, and the television, as part of it, rotates 180 degrees around a vertical pole.

The walls, ceiling, structures, movable partitions, and fittings are all white, aiming for homogeneity and clarity within a small space composed of multiple elements. A mirror surface, placed perpendicular to the exterior façade, expands the space, multiplies the opening of the balcony door, and reflects the city’s exterior into the interior.

Design equilibrium

Vibrant colors and textures converge to create an immersive living experience withing the apartment. Specifically, by blending lightness, functionality, and a contemporary approach to materials, the project celebrates creativity in every detail.

Design Philosophy

Occupying 97m2, the apartment distinguishes itself through a bold color palette and visual composition strategies that explore contrast, layered surfaces, and geometric forms. The result is an atmosphere that feels both dynamic and meticulously composed.

Spatial Organization

The social areas are seamlessly integrated, with subtle zoning achieved through ceiling color variations. The entrance features a white ceiling, while the living, dining, and kitchen spaces are unified under a green one – a visual transition that preserves openness while defining distinct functions. Organic, lightweight furnishings reinforce the apartment’s identity and contribute to an inviting, balanced ambiance. The layout harmonizes aesthetics with practicality, supporting everyday living while maintaining a sense of vibrancy and expression.

Material Palette

A dialogue between bold geometries, contemporary materials, and an emphasis on well-being establishes a refined balance between functionality and creative intent. The project embodies the essence of contemporary living, offering a fluid, expressive environment where comfort and design coexist in equilibrium.

Natural line

Overall, the project proposes an architectural language that is minimal yet expressive, where form, materiality, and light engage in dialogue to shape a holistic experience that transcends commercial function and highlights the space as a bearer of aesthetic and semantic value.

Design Philosophy

The store’s design is based on the curve, as a reference to the natural line of the female body. The space’s flow and the organic forms in earthy tones – with microcement as the dominant material – shaped a clean, unified, and minimal aesthetic result. This simplicity of lines and the selected materiality simultaneously function as a backdrop, highlight the garments as protagonists, and offer visitors an experience of calm, elegance, and aesthetic continuity.

Spatial Organization

The compositional intent relies on shaping a spatial shell where curves operate not merely as decorative elements but as tools for organizing movement and prioritizing sightlines. The integration of lighting, natural and artificial, was approached as an architectural medium that reveals textures, intensifies the plasticity of surfaces, and defines different atmospheres during the visit.

Material Palette

The materiality of microcement, combined with a warm palette of tones, establishes a sense of monolithic character while simultaneously maintaining the softness and fluidity required by the space’s concept. Through this balance, the store’s architecture does not function simply as a backdrop for the exhibits but as a spatial narrative in which the visitor’s body becomes part of the compositional process.

Set within San Miguel de Allende, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the residence acknowledges the cultural and environmental richness of its context. The architecture establishes a dialogue with both geological and urban landscapes, creating a house that is simultaneously rooted in place and forward-looking. By merging geology, memory, and architecture, the project becomes a contemporary expression of belonging.

Design Philosophy

The residence arises from the intersection of architecture and geology, conceived as a living stratum embedded in the landscape. The project is inspired by the stratification of the earth, where time, memory, and material sedimentation shape its presence. Rather than imposing itself on the terrain, the house emerges as part of it, blurring the limits between natural and built environments.

Spatial Organization

The spatial configuration is determined by a sequence of horizontal layers that define both program and perception. These strata articulate circulation and frame views, guiding residents and visitors through an experiential journey of openness and shelter. Each level responds to topography and orientation, ensuring optimal integration with the site. In parallel, the program is organized into distinct yet interconnected zones. Public spaces flow effortlessly into the landscape, while private areas retreat into protected layers of the house. The design balances intimacy with collectivity, allowing for flexible occupation throughout the day.

Material Palette

The materiality of the house emphasizes continuity with the earth. Walls of compacted earth evoke geological processes, while exposed concrete and steel provide structural clarity and contrast. The tactile qualities of materials -textures, densities, and colors- reinforce the idea of inhabiting a living stratum.

Floating box

The project was designed as a floating residence for clients who desired a compact, functional, and contemporary living environment on Lake Union in Seattle. The proposal draws from Seattle’s tradition of floating homes, reimagined through a modern lens that emphasizes efficiency, light, and a strong connection to the water.

Design Philosophy

The design is firmly rooted in the cultural and physical context of Seattle’s floating communities. It balances innovation with tradition, embodying the adaptability required for life on the water. The project celebrates the city’s history of alternative housing while embracing modern design principles.

Spatial Organization

The boat is organized over two primary decks, with open-plan living spaces oriented toward large, glazed openings. The relationship between interior and exterior spaces was a guiding principle, ensuring constant connection to the water and views beyond.

The lower deck accommodates bedrooms and private areas, while the upper deck features a light-filled living room, kitchen, and dining space. An exterior stair leads to a rooftop deck, maximizing outdoor living and providing panoramic views across Lake Union. The layout balances compactness with openness, using efficient planning strategies to ensure comfort within a small footprint.

Material Palette

The material strategy combines marine-grade steel, durable cladding, and warm timber finishes. Steel construction ensures longevity in the marine environment, while wood elements provide domestic warmth. Large windows and skylights maximize natural light, emphasizing transparency and reflection.

Athenian Patchwork

This duality -restrained elegance meeting bursts of energy- makes the home both timeless and full of personality, seamlessly woven into the fabric of Athens while remaining a deeply personal retreat.

Design Philosophy

SItuated in the dynamic neighborhood of Pagkrati, this renovation is an exercise in balance -between refinement and vibrancy, subtlety and expression, quiet backdrops and bold statements. Designed for a young family of three, the home adapts to its inhabitants, allowing them to shape their space while embracing moments of architectural playfulness.

Spatial Organization

The main living spaces are kept deliberately understated, their muted material palette and clean lines forming a canvas for personal expression. Signature furniture pieces find their place alongside a growing collection of paintings and sculptures. These spaces are meant to be lived in, evolving over time as layers of objects and memories accumulate.

Custom Structures & Materials

In contrast, the terraces, kitchen, and bathrooms take a bolder stance. The terraces, in particular, embody the extroverted character of Athens, where life spills effortlessly between indoors and out. A perforated yellow staircase zigzags upward, a ciel blue BBQ anchors gatherings, red-tiled benches invite conversation, and colorful outdoor furniture completes the collage -an architectural nod to the city’s patchwork of balconies and rooftop additions. The same spirit infuses the kitchen and bathrooms, where vibrant colors and patterns break the neutrality of the home, creating playful, unexpected moments.

The material palette contrasts muted tones in the main living areas with bold colors and textures in the terraces, kitchen, and bathrooms, balancing calm neutrality with moments of intensity.

Restructuring an Urban Fragment

The building, a formerly monofunctional and structurally fragmented commercial zone at Salzburg’s Lieferinger Spitz is reimagined as a vibrant, urban microcosm. Located at a key traffic junction along the Münchner Bundesstraße, the site -once defined by noise, vehicular dominance, and anonymity- is transformed through a bold architectural gesture into a place of social interaction, ecological awareness, and spatial clarity.

Design Philosophy

The L-shaped building anchors the site, mediates between scales, and introduces a carefully choreographed volumetry that responds to environmental stressors while defining new urban edges. Terraced floors, setbacks, and volumetric articulations provide noise protection and introduce rhythm and identity. What was once a lot hosting six units now accommodates 47 hybrid residential and commercial units, merging density with livability.

The core of the architectural concept lies in smart densification without additional land consumption. Parking is decoupled from lease agreements, creating flexibility and liberating surface area for green and communal spaces. By prioritizing bike infrastructure, car -and cargo-bike sharing, and non-motorized mobility, the building responds to the needs of a shifting urban demographic. Roof gardens, vertical green systems, and open-air terraces introduce biodiversity, moderate heat islands, and create meaningful social interfaces.

Urban Design

Confronted with a narrow, traffic-exposed plot, the design asserts a new logic: it creates a public plaza with a fountain, integrates a new bike lane, and elevates community life with a rooftop playground. This project redefines the rules of residual spaces, demonstrating how architecture can reclaim forgotten zones and turn them into hubs of urban vitality. Despite constraints, the site now hosts more green space than before, proving that density and ecology can not only coexist, but amplify each other.

The project goes beyond architecture: it delivers measurable public and ecological value. Residents benefit from improved air quality, reduced noise, and diversified urban amenities. The surrounding district profits from new public green areas, improved microclimate, and an upgraded mobility infrastructure. In the broader urban ecology, MB110 contributes to reducing soil sealing, supporting biodiversity, and encouraging low-impact lifestyles.

Innovative Approach & Sustainability

What distinguishes MB110 is its ability to create more open, green space through densification -an apparent contradiction turned design strategy. It demonstrates how unbuildable or overlooked urban plots can be reprogrammed through architecture into meaningful, livable, and ecologically sound urban fragments. It offers a blueprint for resilient urban transformation, balancing pragmatic solutions with visionary thinking.

Material inflections

The renovation of the historic Montgomery Ward building is an interplay between the minimalist and the material, blending the apartment’s architectural qualities with the owner’s collection of contemporary art, antiques, and modernist furniture.

Design Philosophy

The main living space is experienced as a single spatial volume oriented towards an expansive terrace through subtle changes in the ceiling plane, gradually stepping up to meet the floor-to-ceiling windows. The articulation of the building’s structural grid divides the interior living space into different activities and uses. Large openings between rooms extend to the ceiling, and are positioned to emphasize orientation and passage, and to frame specific views between rooms.

Material Palette

The minimalism of the spatial enclosure is contrasted by dramatic material inflections. Natural stone slabs, selected for their painterly qualities, are used throughout the apartment. A monolithic porcelain kitchen defines the north wall of the living space and frames a mural-like installation of book-matched marble. Stacked slabs of vein-cut stone compose an intimate sitting area, and the primary bath is wrapped in mixed slabs of green-and black veined marble.

Custom structures

Millwork elements soften the boundary between architecture and furnishing. In the home office, oxidized oak millwork was designed to complement a live-edge antique desk, and to conceal equipment behind panels of ribbed solid wood. The sitting area is foregrounded by a lighting installation and custom console table that delineate the apartment entry and offers a prelude to the sinuous and organic geometries of the apartment’s mid-century and contemporary furnishings.

Fragmented surfaces

The office complex occupies a five-story building spanning two adjacent plots, aligning with the horizontal flow of the street.

Context Integration

Located near a major high-speed road, the building was designed to serve as a landmark. Its dynamic composition features bold, angular surfaces and interlocking diagonal volumes, creating a striking visual identity. This design approach extends across the entire structure, giving the impression that the facade shifts and evolves with the movement of passing vehicles and pedestrians.

Parametric Design

To address the system of non-orthogonal geometries, a parametric design approach was employed. The surfaces were modeled using triangular forms, onto which vertical elements -blinds that follow the building’s original shape- were later applied. The structure comprises a ground floor, a mechanical floor, five office levels, and a rooftop garden. The core, housing staircases and elevators, is positioned on the northern side of the site, while the remaining sides feature open-plan office spaces with expansive city views.

Façade Design

On the south-facing facades, aluminum frames are recessed from the building’s boundary, creating semi-open terraces of varying sizes. These terraces follow the structure’s dynamic form and provide natural shading for the offices during the summer months. The north elevation features a solid shell punctuated by vertical openings that extend across all levels. The concept of a dynamic, shifting facade is further emphasized by vertical flap elements that align with the floor slabs. The office entrance is framed by angular, fractured walls of exposed concrete, enhancing the building’s bold aesthetic and reinforcing its overall architectural vision.

Transitional axis

The project concerns the conversion of a ground floor warehouse space, on the ring road of Thessaloniki, into the offices of a multinational company.

Design Philosophy

The goal is to create a dynamic work environment that serves as a reference point for employees- a “third space” between home and the office -fostering a new kind of sociability. The trapezoidal layout allows for natural light from two sides, shaping the functional floor plan. The 1,000m² office space is organized into three zones: a peripheral zone along the building’s exterior, a central core, and a movement axis connecting them. Open workspaces are strategically placed along the naturally lit sides, while the triangular core houses large meeting rooms and ancillary facilities such as restrooms and storage areas. The workspace is further divided into sections, incorporating small meeting rooms to accommodate employees’ daily needs.

Material Palette

The project embraces a contemporary aesthetic with earthy tones, balancing natural and synthetic textures through deliberate contrasts. The three zones of the floor plan are visually distinguished by varying finishes on both floors and vertical surfaces. At the entrance and along the main circulation corridor, wood-look flooring enhances warmth and flow, while carpeting in the work areas helps absorb vibrations. In the cafeteria, concrete-look tiles provide a sleek, durable finish. To optimize acoustics and conceal mechanical installations, plasterboard suspended ceilings are installed across the building’s largest surface. Walls feature a mix of white and grey paint, wood paneling, vertical gardens, and glass partition systems, creating a dynamic yet cohesive environment.

Plan & Lighting Design

The work zone is separated from the movement axis by vertical blinds and flowerbeds, creating a sense of definition while maintaining openness. Careful attention was given to lighting, air conditioning, and soundproofing to ensure a comfortable and efficient workspace. The canteen and playrooms serve as key areas that encourage a shift in activities, fostering a more dynamic work experience. These spaces not only support remote work culture but also redefine the office as a hub for both productivity and social interaction.

Dynamic reuse

The early 20th-century multi-storey warehouse in the port of Patras, a listed building, has been restored to its original form. Late additions on the south side were removed, and necessary structural reinforcements were made to accommodate office infrastructure and create a modern working environment.

Existing Shell

The enclosure is characterized by a limited number of rectangular windows and the distinctive preserved ventilation holes of the former warehouses on each level. Internally, the original composite load-bearing structure of concrete, steel, and timber was removed and replaced with a new steel-and-concrete framework. The slab levels were redefined to provide sufficient height in the central zones, with the reused building spanning five above-ground floors.

A square atrium was introduced at the center of the floor plan, extending down to the ground floor. This addition was designed to create new openings, improving natural light and ventilation, which had been insufficient due to the small original windows. Two new internal stairwells ensure safe egress for employees from all floors, while the main stairwell features circular windows that reference the façade’s original ventilation holes.

Spatial Organization

The ground floor features the main entrance with a waiting and lounge area, meeting rooms, and seminar halls. On the first floor, there is a dining area, a kitchen, and office spaces to the south. The three upper floors follow an identical layout, dedicated exclusively to office use. Each floor includes ample restroom facilities, as well as kitchenettes and coffee stands for employees. The offices are designed in an open-plan layout, incorporating distinct yet interconnected collaboration and meeting areas of various types, along with executive offices enclosed by glass partitions.

Material Palette

The design aimed to create a vibrant, refreshing space with colorful accents and intriguing architectural details, fostering a welcoming work environment with a domestic aesthetic. To honor the building’s industrial heritage, exposed electromechanical installations were incorporated, evoking its original character. These elements coexist harmoniously with soft materials such as wood, Neptune seaweed, and colored surfaces, forming a modern and dynamic composition. Combined with the transparency and natural light from the atrium, this approach results in a highly expressive reuse of the listed building, perfectly aligned with the company’s identity.

Distinct levels

The proposal focuses on the aesthetic and functional enhancement of an existing building, transforming it into modern offices and showrooms for an international fashion company. As part of a broader strategic development plan, the project seamlessly integrates architectural innovation with bioclimatic principles, creating a striking and sustainable design.

Design Philosophy

The primary design objective was to create a flexible workplace that fosters employee well-being. To accommodate the project’s new functional requirements, enclosed spaces were added to the existing structure, either as horizontal extensions or vertical additions.

The new building mass follows an ‘aggregated’ approach, integrating seamlessly with the existing architectural composition. This strategy not only completes the original structure but also introduces a fresh typology, where each floor is distinct and independent, either recessed or projecting. This new typology shifts the scale of the building towards an ‘office neighborhood’ rather than a conventional office complex. Open spaces on the upper levels reinforce this concept, with the central atrium playing a more prominent role in enhancing connectivity and spatial fluidity.

Functional Layout

The atrium spans the second and third floors, serving as the focal point of a spatial sequence that extends from the interior of the second floor to the planted area of the third floor and the rooftop. At its highest point, the roof offers unobstructed views of Parnitha. This design ensures visual continuity between levels, acting as a transition point from enclosed to open spaces and fostering social interaction, collaboration, and a connection to nature within an area characterized by its strong industrial identity.

The central entrance is positioned along a diagonal axis, seamlessly extending into the floor above. Inside, strategic notches in the slabs create double-height zones between the showrooms, enhancing visual connectivity between floors and reinforcing the perception of a unified, expansive space. The communal areas feature continuous marble flooring and wood-paneled ceilings, adding a sense of elegance and cohesion to the interior.

Sustainable Approach

Beneath the planted roof, an internal loft has been designed to house office spaces. The building features a rooftop garden, spacious terraces, landscaped ground-level gardens, bicycle facilities, and ample parking. Distinguished by its high energy efficiency and bioclimatic design, the project reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable development. With LEED GOLD certification, it incorporates advanced pollutant management strategies, supports electric vehicle charging, and minimizes light pollution, contributing to environmental preservation.

Design for the future

The new headquarters span 1,200m² across seven floors of a former hospital building, which has been transformed into a modern workspace.

Design Philosophy

A key strategic decision was to design a functional office space that integrates modern work methods with the company’s specific needs while anticipating post-pandemic workplace transformations. Each floor was designed to function independently, both in terms of energy and organization. By analyzing the company’s organizational structure, an optimal department layout was developed to minimize unnecessary movement.

Functional Layout

Each floor features dedicated spaces for relaxation, meetings, and work, with offices designed around a hot-desking system. At the entrance of every floor, an open, monochromatic coffee corner provides a welcoming touch. On the top floor, the existing café was renovated and transformed into a dining area with an outdoor BBQ, encouraging social interaction in a relaxed setting while keeping workspaces free from dining activities. The second key strategic decision was to establish a bold, cohesive architectural identity that unifies the entire building and reinforces the company’s corporate character.

Material Palette & Furniture

The concrete roof was exposed by removing the old, suspended ceiling, while the existing technical installations were remodeled, modernized, and painted in a warm red hue. To complement this, the flooring was designed to define different spaces and guide the flow of movement. The company’s existing equipment was carefully inventoried, assessed, and repurposed wherever possible. All available furniture was primarily integrated into the IT area, creating a dynamic mix-and-match aesthetic that aligns with the needs of its users.

Functional Layout

The layout includes various open workstations, collaborative areas, meeting rooms, lounge and a reception. Large blank white walls display definitions of various cricket terminology words to infuse a sense of identity, purpose and inspiration. Finally, an abundance of indoor potted plants is created to bring a sense of comfort and freshness within the space.

Brand Identity

Accents of red is used in the flooring pattern to define these different zones. Hues of red are also selectively used in various elements such as the desks, cable trays, acoustic panels, sofa, light, etc. to reinforce the color palette. Sheer, white, light weight curtains made from linen are used to diffuse natural light in order create a soft, diffused glow throughout the office. The rest of the space is finished in neutral tones of calming whites and earthy greys to provide contrast and balance. The design is an attempt to create a space that offers respite in a world characterized by constant demands of the fast paced digital world.

Natural retreat

The residence embodies a young couple’s desire for a welcoming, functional home that is deeply connected to nature. Originally designed for phased expansion, the decision to complete the entire project from the outset enhanced construction efficiency and ensured greater comfort for future residents. The metal structure and steel deck system were chosen not only for their speed and precision in construction but also for their aesthetic impact, bringing lightness to the architectural composition.

Functional Organization

The residence is laid out in an “H” shape, a solution that allows all spaces to open onto the garden, fostering a continuous relationship between indoor and outdoor areas. The kitchen, one of the home’s central spaces, reflects the clients’ lifestyle: it directly connects to the living and dining areas, the barbecue space, and the garden, which includes a vegetable patch. The staircase leading to the upper floor doubles as a translucent wine cellar, maintaining visual permeability throughout the space. This fluid, integrated environment was designed to enhance social interactions and accommodate gatherings with friends and family -one of the homeowners’ top priorities.

In parallel, the spaces were designed to ensure functionality while maintaining a sense of retreat. The four suites are located on the upper floor, including a bedroom planned for the couple’s first child. Circulation areas were optimized to create dynamic communal spaces, such as the upstairs office, which makes use of an otherwise underutilized area. The bathrooms follow the same logic of integration and efficiency, with features like frosted glass shower enclosures that provide privacy without compromising the sense of spaciousness.

Material Palette

Materiality plays a crucial role in shaping the project’s identity. A concise, natural palette was chosen, with wood as a standout element. The continuous Tauari wood ceiling enhances spatial fluidity and warmth. On the ground floor, a pigmented concrete wall and microcement flooring create a unified aesthetic, reinforcing the home’s contemporary language. Meanwhile, Cumaru wood lattice screens contrast with the metal structure, filtering light and balancing privacy with visual openness. Finally, the outdoor pergolas feature sections covered with glass and straw, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.

Exterior Design & Furniture

The outdoor area is a natural extension of the architecture. The lush landscaping complements the striking presence of the swimming pool, which was positioned laterally to offer views from multiple points within the house. The terrace acts as an extension of the social area, reinforcing the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Furniture selection followed an organic approach, allowing the residents to curate pieces that reflect their personalities. The architecture dictated the layout, lighting, and finishes, ensuring the interiors embodied the essence of the project without excess.

Carved out space

A small apartment situated in the historic center of Genoa, “carves out” space in a section of the grand hall of an ancient palace. The compact solution creatively utilizes every opportunity to accommodate the lives of the young owners, finding ample space in the double-height living area, illuminated by three exuberant windows framing close-up views of the domes of San Giorgio and San Torpete. Custom-designed furniture elements also serve multiple functions, helping to define the living space.

Existing Condition

The original hall was divided into two apartments, one of which, covers two-thirds of the original surface. Before the renovation, the space consisted of three rooms with large windows and a blind bathroom, with an internal height of 3.3m. A staircase led to an attic with 1.3m ceiling height. The first design gesture was to completely clear the space, demolishing the attic and internal partitions, thus returning to a full interior height of 4.7m. This also reconnected the double row of three windows, one of which had been walled up, overlooking the ancient market square.

Spatial Layout

The new inhabitants are a communication expert and digital strategist, while the partner is a curator of photography festivals. Hence, they needed ample space to store books, catalogs, and artworks, as well as a place to host friends and work. Considering the existing structure and the clients’ needs, a portion of the attic and partitions opposite the windows facing the square are preserved. Consequently, this “private” part is used for the bedroom, pantry and bathroom.

The entry corridor leads to the large living area, creating a perspective that, through the dining area, directs the visitor’s gaze toward the impressive window that frames the dome of the Church of San Giorgio. The living area at the end of the corridor is spacious and very bright, while the kitchen, complemented by a generous dining area, also serves as a workspace. A wall library, designed with floor-to-ceiling uprights that rhythmically divide the entire wall, houses the kitchen in its lower part. An aluminum track ladder allows access to the higher shelves and facilitates routine window maintenance.

Custom Structures

The side of the living area through which you enter is defined by a custom-made, multifaceted piece of furniture. This spatial device serves as a staircase to the mezzanine and integrates storage units for the bedroom, an opaline glass screen that brings more light into the bedroom behind it, and a sofa that extends from the first step of the mezzanine stairs. A light white tubular structure accompanies the ascent to the mezzanine, where a desk overlooks the lower living area.

Material Conservation

The original terrazzo flooring has been retained. Though not particularly ornate, it serves as a testament to the architectural history of the Liguria region. Following the same principle, the decorative stuccoes on the ceiling, dating back to the early 20th century, have also been preserved.

Natural emergence

In the heart of Patras, an old industrial building, originally constructed in 1910, has been repurposed into a modern architectural office and exhibition space. The building began as Agouridis’ distillery and later became the renowned Karydis carpentry shop. It remained in operational until 2005.

Existing Structure

The building, covering an area of 136m², is a single-story space with stone masonry walls and wooden-supported roofs. The primary goal of the architectural restoration was to preserve its key structural elements while enhancing their natural appearance through minimal interventions. In the first phase, the roof frame was preserved and reinforced. The old asbestos-cement roofing slabs were replaced with polyurethane thermal insulation panels. The new roof cladding is made of longitudinal translucent blocks, which offer the space additional natural light.

Spatial Layout

The interior is an open space, featuring a stone partition at the back where art and architecture seamlessly coexist. In the center, a 4.5m table serves as the main hub of the office, facilitating interaction between the team and the clients. The table is flanked by two large, iconic potted trees. The generous height of the space, along with the surrounding white walls, creates an ideal setting for displaying various artworks. At the back, a wc and a freestanding kitchenette provide a designated break and dining area. This area was once a courtyard, which was later legalized by the owners and adapted for use.

Interior & Exterior Integration

Building on the idea of the dynamic relationship between nature and architecture, the creation of a garden could have completed the project. However, in this case, it was seen as more challenging and rewarding to bring the garden inside. The two trees enrich the workspace by introducing a sense of life, while also establishing a connection with the public space outside through the glass façade. This is a space where the working environment continuously evolves, with the translucent ceiling panels casting a soft, diffused light throughout the day. From the outset, the primary objective was to design an open space that could transform with every exhibition it hosts, while remaining accessible to the public.

Transparent shell

Surat, a thriving hub of commerce and culture in Gujarat, has steadily transformed into a city that balances tradition with rapid modernization. Known for its bustling textile industry and diamond trade, it is a city of resilience, innovation, and growth. Amidst this vibrant backdrop, the 2400m2 project emerges as a beacon of contemporary design that integrates seamlessly with the natural environment.

Project Philosophy

At the core of the office’s design lies a philosophy of openness and fluidity. Much like the single-celled organism it is named after, the architecture is dynamic and ever-adaptive, drawing from the natural forms and elements that surround it. The office comprises four glass cubes -two directors’ spaces, a meeting room, and a staff area- each strategically positioned around a central veranda. This design creates a visually striking as well as functional structure, where indoor spaces flow seamlessly into outdoor semi-open areas. The veranda acts as a communal hub, reminiscent of Indian homes, encouraging informal interactions, creativity, and free-flowing discussions. This deliberate blending of indoor and outdoor transforms the space into a living, breathing environment that thrives on collaboration and connection.

Architectural Elements

Transparency is at the heart of the project’s architectural design. The glass cubes allow natural light to flood into the spaces, fostering a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding garden. This transparency extends beyond mere aesthetics; it is a conscious design choice that reflects the values of modern corporate culture -clarity, visibility, and inclusivity. The garden office concept enhances this connection to nature, making the workspace an integral part of the landscape rather than an imposition upon it. Large, cantilevered roofs provide shade, shielding the glass structures from Surat’s intense sun while also casting ever-shifting patterns of light and shadow throughout the day. This constant play of natural elements creates a dynamic environment, where the atmosphere changes with the time of day, fostering a workspace that is as flexible as it is inspirational.

Sustainable Design

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the project is a model of sustainable design. The emphasis on natural daylight dramatically reduces the need for artificial lighting, promoting energy efficiency. Additionally, the thoughtful incorporation of local materials not only reduces the building’s carbon footprint but also supports the local economy. The exposed concrete, the black-tiled flooring, and the custom furniture crafted by local artisans are a testament to the architect’s commitment to sustainability. By engaging local carpenters and procuring materials from nearby areas, the project reduces transportation costs and fosters community involvement. The design also features high cross-ventilation, significantly lowering air-conditioning needs, while innovative plumbing systems conserve water, further demonstrating the project’s alignment with green architecture principles.

Vegetation & Decoration

The lush gardens are thoughtfully designed with native plant species, which not only thrive in the local climate but also contribute to the ecological balance by supporting regional flora and fauna. The garden is not just an afterthought but an integral part of the design, reinforcing the connection between workspaces and the natural environment. Internally, the office feels like an art gallery. The open spaces are adorned with sculptures and artworks that infuse the environment with creativity and inspiration.

Interactive Spaces

The 78m² apartment is located in a building constructed in 1966. To modernize the space and align it with contemporary needs, essential structural repairs were undertaken alongside significant spatial modifications.

Spatial Organisation

The original apartment featured separate spaces for the kitchen, living room, and hallway, along with two bedrooms and a bathroom. The new design integrates the kitchen with the two-bedroom areas, while the transitional hallway is repurposed as the primary space for the dining area. The kitchen and living room now follow a linear layout, creating a harmonious flow as their design elements align seamlessly. A small corridor, painted in a distinctive green colour, connects the bedrooms and bathroom, marking a clear transition from the shared spaces to the private ones.

Material Palette

The mosaic floors, featuring three distinct patterns unique to each space, along with the parquet flooring, were preserved and polished, with marble used to highlight the trace of the removed wall. In order to seamlessly blend old and new materials, the kitchen, positioned prominently in a linear layout opposite the entrance, is painted in a terracotta red shade, harmonizing the diverse range of materials.

Lighting Design

Ceiling fixtures provide the primary lighting for the space, while wall fixtures and hidden lighting offer diffused illumination, allowing for versatile lighting scenarios that create to different atmospheres and moods.

The “Salt Color House” is located in front of the so-called Mira channel in Costa Nova do Prado, a unique landscape close to salt water, filled with ample vegetation.

Design Philosophy

The residence features the area’s “maritime nature”, becoming a home for the architect and his family and creating a space that is both functional and aesthetically compatible. The design intent was to create an intimate relationship between the interior and exterior. Consequently, an exterior patio creates a bridge with the south façade of the house, allowing ample natural light to enter the building.

Functional Layout

The interior is made of half floors and double-height spaces in order to minimize the risk of flooding in the basement as well as create a vertical dynamic throughout the residence. The living and dining areas are located on the upper floor, looking down to the estuary. Furthermore, the “social” space of the residence extends outside to the terrace on the roof. Finally, the bedroom and bathroom are located on the lower floors, in order to ensure a sufficient level of privacy.

Material Palette & Façade Design

The materials chosen for the construction were primarily ceramic tiles, wood, and aluminum. Shades of white dominate all the spaces, creating a light and airy atmosphere that carries through to the façade of the residence. Vertical, narrow panels painted in white are placed strategically across the exterior facades providing shading and creating a playful light interplay within the interior.

Golden accents

Located in the bustling coastal city of Wenzhou in the southeast of China, known for its mild subtropical climate, Xiaoshi (小十) restaurant draws on the local environment, creating a heightened, aesthetically refined dining atmosphere for its guests.

Design Philosophy

Inspired by Chinese classical aesthetics, the project combines the operational requirements of a restaurant with the existing site conditions to create an upscale dining experience on the upper level of a centrally located mall. The restaurant exterior is designed as a stage for visitors, becoming an intermediary space between the cozy interior and the mall, creating a heightened sense of transition and anticipation that ultimately allows for a more private dining experience. The curved “landscape” incorporates a series of bamboo stalks and a raised stone walkway which references a traditional Japanese garden. Overhead, a series of curved panels catch the light from above, while also acting as signage for the restaurant. A narrow hallway guides the visitor from the entrance through to a large, rectangular space that acts as the main dining hall. A series of double-height windows run along the north wall, separated by deep, vertical panels which filter the natural light and introduce a striking scale and rhythm to the space.

Interior Façade & Lighting

The main wall is clad in dark, customly designed panels that feature translucent timber illuminated by led lights, breaking up the open-plan space into intimate dining corners and introducing visual variation. The circulation area sits on a different level from the main dining room, lined with glowing led lights, providing clear spatial definition and graphic visual flair. Linear hidden lighting is carried through along the edge of the ceiling, echoing the lights below and providing an aesthetic consistency as well as a sense of spatial depth.

Material Palette & Furniture

A dark color palette is chosen, featuring materials such as dark wall panels, hardwood flooring and golden accents. The furniture is custom designed, inspired by traditional Japanese craftmanship. Finally, a collection of objects and artefacts such as antique vases and handmade ceramics complete the space.

Exterior interplay

The apartment is part of a residence complex with contemporary infrastructural amenities and leisure areas that focus on well-being and environmental preservation.

Design Approach

The client brief asked for a complete renovation of the interior space, integrating a cozy environment as well as an open-plan space with various artefacts. The most disruptive architectural gesture was the incorporation of the balcony with the living room, creating a large open space that promotes social interactions as well as a feeling of modernity and harmony.

Material Palette & Lighting

One of the main objectives was to maximize the natural lighting entering the apartment. As a result, a large opening is created in the kitchen, providing ample sunlight during the day, while indirect lighting and spotlights are used to make the space more functional and welcoming. The materials selection complements the existing wood paneling. More specifically, the joinery at the living room is made of reclaimed wood, while mdf in graphite tones is used for the kitchen cupboards. The lights and neutral fabrics bring out a lightness to the overall environment. Finally, a series of decorative artefacts and paintings are displayed throughout the space in minimal black and white frames to avoid any visual clutter.

Exterior Design

One of the biggest challenges was hiding the air conditioning situated on the balcony, without interfering with the existing hydraulics. A wooden joinery made of slatted doors that functions as a cupboard is positioned behind the sofa offering easy access to the air conditioning system, while maintaining visual harmony.

The project aim is to combine the Cycladic Island beauty with the modern aura of Athens, creating a contemporary Greek identity.

Layout organization

The ground floor features an open-plan design, fostering an environment for collaboration and communication amongst employees. A series of sinks and manicure benches occupy the walls. On the first floor, the hair salon takes center stage. This area is dedicated to a wide range of hair care services, providing clients with a tranquil and stylish environment where they can enjoy personalized treatments. The distinct separation between the two floors allows each space to specialize in different aspects of beauty and wellness.

Colour Palette

White tones are contrasted with dark elements such as a wooden pergola and benches. The walls are clad with colorful mosaic tiles and the floors are made of polished, white marble, exuding a sense of tranquility and elegance. Α series of walls are painted with colorful geometric shapes, which along with custom-made furniture in vivid blue shades, become accent features.

Custom Elements

To serve the functional needs of the space, custom-made storage units are constructed, creating a flexible and interactive workflow. One of the most innovative elements is the manicure bench, which includes sinks to promote practicality and allow manicurists to perform their tasks seamlessly without having to move to different stations.

Slow luxury

The residence is located in the serene part of Delhi, far removed from the city’s bustling center. Drawing inspiration from slow and artful living, the space was designed to encapsulate luxury as well as foster a profound connection with nature.

Design Philosophy

Through a series of discrete modifications, the design seamlessly integrates new and existing areas with minimal intervention to the residence’s structure. The layout prioritizes the creation of spaces for social interaction and entertainment. From thoughtfully designed nooks to inviting entertainment areas, every aspect of the space has been curated to encourage meaningful interactions and engaging conversations. The project’s approach abandons conventional luxury and embraces the concept of ‘slow luxury.’ Aesthetically, this is a crossover between the quintessential Italian and French influences found in the choice of furniture and the subtle infusion of Indian and Japanese influence through carefully curated artworks.

Interior Layout & Materials

Sculptural lighting and versatile furnishings along with an innovative lime-wash technique are used throughout the space. The master bedroom features panoramic views framed by large windows as well as rustic stone walls that complement the selection of refined furniture. The lounge and formal dining room are designed with great attention to detail and functionality. At the center of the communal space, a magnificent eucalyptus log is used as bar stands, finished with the Japanese burning technique known as Shou Sugi Ban. Adjacent to the bar, parts of the plaster are demolished, exposing sections of the brick wall, and adding a rugged elegance to the overall space. Artwork is thoughtfully positioned throughout the residence along with an array of vases and planters that serve both as functional vessels and captivating sculptures.

Landscape Design

One of the property’s standout features is its magnificent old trees, which served as a source of inspiration during the design process. The landscape design incorporates natural elements and embraces the property’s unique surroundings, serving as a testament to its natural beauty. The carefully laid paths have a natural and organic feel that define different spaces around a green-tiled pool. Thoughtfully chosen outdoor furniture and unique handmade clay planters, doubling as sculptures, offer an additional touch of slow luxury.

Colorful functions

The project’s aim is the renovation of an apartment situated in an old 1980’s Athenian building, which faces a large park. The apartment’s linear organisation as well as its southwestern orientation, allows an abundance of natural light to enter the space.

Spatial Organization

The design objective is to create a multi-functional space that includes a kitchen, a dining and living area and an office, while maintaining an open central area. During the demolition works, the wall separating the kitchen and living room of the original layout is removed. Furthermore, the furniture is positioned along the edges of the reconfigured open space, becoming visually integrated with the walls, through similar colour tones.

Central Design Element

For the kitchen and office space, contrasting colour shades were carefully selected -deep red and dark green colours respectively- to distinguish between the two functions. The kitchen island is clad in black stone and birch wood and acts as the new divider in the living room as well as a versatile space for gathering, dining, meal prepping and office area.

Material Palette

The interior floor is clad with Ioannina marble and the exterior with Aliveri marble. The material’s high reflectivity, diffuses and enhances the natural light entering the apartment. In contrast, the wooden floors in the bedrooms exude a sense of warmth and relaxation. The use of pink marble tiles for the bathroom floor preserves the apartment’s material continuity, which, combined with grey metallic elements, gives the space a luxurious character.

Central Square

The redesign of the company’s administrative building not only enhanced its functionality but also revitalized its image to align with modern working standards. The renovation resulted in expanded office space, upgraded air conditioning, and lighting systems geared towards enhancing comfort and optimizing the facilities.

Design Objective

Built in 2007, the building initially failed to accommodate the company’s growing demand for office space. Consequently, management opted to renovate all office areas, a total of 7000m2, to meet the organization’s expanding needs. The study was developed with the aim and the vision of crafting a design proposal befitting a pioneering company, while also prioritizing the quality of the working environment it offers to its employees.

The design incorporated suggestions from employees who had participated in recent projects, fostering a collaborative approach. These suggestions included creating spaces conducive to relaxed discussions, facilitating work outside the office environment, and fostering an atmosphere that encourages freedom in work and, consequently, in thought and creativity. At the same time, the objective was to establish a welcoming atmosphere that prioritizes comfort and versatility in the space, catering to the employee’s varying needs. Additionally, the design aimed to offer an escape from conventional routines by incorporating interactive elements within these spaces.

Architectural Concept

Taking into consideration all the programmatic modifications, the architectural concept revolves around freeing the “dark centre” and replacing it with a vibrant “heart.” This central space offers a multitude of functionalities, fostering personal expression and creativity for every individual. By cultivating an accessible, intimate, and inviting environment, the design promotes innovation and collaboration, while staying aligned with contemporary trends as well as the new generation entering the workplace. The concept’s originality lies in elevating public spaces and reimagining the “square” -drawing reference from the Renaissance period- as the “heart” of the city. Embracing the Greek character, the local “language” and lifestyle led to the architecture being conceptualized around the notion of the Greek square.

Open Layout

The building’s core unfolds to integrate meeting rooms in a dynamic arrangement, emphasizing diagonal positioning and prioritizing transparency. Within this space, circulation spaces intertwine with refreshment areas, break rooms, seating sections as well as an open kitchen. The “square’s” public nature is accentuated by natural elements, such as a tree-sculpture, fostering a sense of openness and drawing people together for communal interaction. The building’s original architectural structure was preserved.

The design leverages its existing geometry as the foundation for the proposal’s distinctive diagonal pathway, which breathes new life into the previously enclosed centre. Central to this design is the triple-height atrium, around which the remaining structure revolves, facilitating the vertical diffusion of natural light throughout the space. The proposal’s strength lies in the abundant natural light entering the space, illuminating the building’s core, while also flowing through the central space and the transparent perimeter, bathing all floors in its glow.
