Sotiris Danezis “returns” to areas on the planet, marked by wars and humanitarian crises, to present his outstanding stories through photographic works, personal items, and six transmedia docs, featured on 65’’ LG OLED TV screens.

The third solo exhibition of the acclaimed reporter, entitled “Non-Returns”, is a joint production of the Municipality of Piraeus and the Philosophy and Photography Laboratory, with LG OLED TV as Technology Sponsor; it is open to the public from April 15 at the Municipal Gallery of Piraeus.

The new artistic endeavor of Sotiris Danezis, curated by Vangelis Ioakimidis, includes more than 300 photographic works, installations, projections, and stills from his documentary. For the first time on display, personal items brought with him back to Greece, testify to his missions and documented histories as memorabilia-traces.

At the Municipal Gallery of Piraeus, visitors wander through three different spaces and more than 12 thematic units, in conjunction with digital works. This memorable experience culminates in six 65’’ LG OLED screens positioned along the space, featuring stills from the “voyage” of Sotiris Danezis, breathing life with the exceptional clarity provided by their self-illuminating pixels technology. The 100% color accuracy of OLED screens, faithfully depicts the colors of the original image; therefore, what you see is displayed exactly as the author had intended, assigning outstanding realism to the content, contributing to a singular viewer experience. LG OLED, with limitless contrast, the deepest black, the richest colors and the realistic image quality, results in catching everyone’s gaze, while the new, redesigned panel improves the light wavelengths and offers an optimized viewing experience. Furthermore, the LG OLED 65’’ stands out in its exceptionally slim design and far-reaching innovation, depicting every photographic detail to perfection.

At the exhibition opening, Sotiris Danezis received -among others- the Mayor of Piraeus, Yannis Moralis, and members of the City Board, as well as: Yannis Stankoglou, Giorgos Perris, Christina Kontova, Constantinos Voyatzis, Orestis Karydas, and Eliana Chryssikopoulou.

The exhibition is open every day from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00; it will run until May 29th, 2022.

The pioneering collaboration between LG Electronics (LG) and the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation, titled “Art Meets Technology”, was presented at a joint event hosted at the Foundation’s premises in Athens. With this synergy, art enthusiasts are given the opportunity to “bring home” some of the Foundation collection’s most celebrated works; the latter will be available in Gallery Mode for all LG OLED television sets from 2021 and 2022. Further, the feature will bea available for all LG television models with webOS. The partnership belongs to a global initiative by LG Electronics, aspiring to join art and technology on a global scale.

Among the works from the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation, now available in Gallery Mode for LG OLED televisions, are: “Les Alyscamps” and “Nature morte à la cafetière” by Vincent van Gogh; “Portrait de l’artiste regardant par-dessus son épaule” by Paul Cézanne; “Nature morte aux pamplemousses” by Paul Gauguin; “Beide gestreift” by Wassily Kandinsky; and “Dynamik eines Kopfes” by Paul Klee.

Gallery Mode can be activated with voice commands through ThinQ AI, also available in Greek.

LG OLED ThinQ televisions, with a redesigned panel and advanced, self-illuminating pixels, offer exceptionally high sound and image resolution, and a unique viewing experience. Further, with their exceptional color reproduction technology, they achieve full color saturation, depicting the full DCI-P3 spectrum in the entire television luminosity range.

The event was greeted by the Chair of the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation Board of Directors, Ms. Fleurette Caradonti: “This important partnership between the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation and LG, highlights the full potential of the meeting between art and technology. Works showcased in a Museum in Athens, lovingly collected by Basil and Elise Goulandris, can now travel the world through the LG television screens. This is unique” she stated.

Mr. Aris Koutelos, Managing Director of LG Electronics Hellas, noted: “this collaboration makes us very happy, since it is one more innovation record for LG Electronics Hellas. Our contribution to the showcasing of such important works on a beautiful screen, proves the connection between art and technology and testifies to its accelerating evolution, assuming new forms.”/

Never again has a television been able to define the looks of our space in such a singular way, adding perfection to any environment, with refined aesthetics.

LG is first to succeed in this direction, with the brand-new LG Gallery OLED TV, which binds together contemporary design, cutting-edge technology, and art, in a product that changes the way we had watched television up to this day.

Inspired by fine art, benefitting from LG OLED technology which is self-illuminating and does not require any back lighting, the Gallery TV unlocks a new world of television design: extremely slim profile and extremely thin frames result in an elegant item that will seamlessly blend into your wall, as an artwork.

Unique screensavers illustrating famous art pieces, highlight innovation and inspiration in the television design, making it part of any art lover’s collection.

Absolute trust in the credentials of the new LG Gallery OLED TV is confirmed from the point of view of the successful architect and interior designer, Kostas Gagos of Gagos Architecture and Design, who is eager to agree this is a work of art. “The incredibly slim design of the OLED panel is so beautiful and discreet that it gives the impression of a true work of art, transforming your living room into a modern art museum.”

Awarded as Architect/Designer of the Year in the Retail Interiors Awards 2020, the architect, standing out in the fields of renovation, decoration and construction of small to large-scale projects, in Greece and abroad, appreciates the unique viewing experience as much as the aesthetic luxury: “LG OLED Gallery TV is equipped with self-illuminating pixels that can produce perfect black, exceptional realism and unique designs. The OLED screen has 100% color calibration, accurately depicting the colors of the original image in digital form. The result is an unparalleled viewing experience!”

Samsung revolutionizes refrigerator design, by creating the first modular refrigerators for household use that can grow or reduce their size, or change their color, providing infinite design versatility.

The new Samsung Bespoke refrigerator series was designed to suit any style of kitchen and any consumer need, by being customizable in the course of time: They comprise independent units that can be added to each other, and the panels are sold separately from the refrigerators to be able to suit space, for any mood.

Samsung Bespoke refrigerators change, as life needs change. A single dweller can buy a refrigerator/freezer with any color of panels they; if, in the course of time, a flatmate is added, they will not need to change the refrigerator but simply to add one more unit -for instance, a refrigerator/freezer that can be either one or the other. If, in the meantime, children appear and more storage space is needed, one more unit can be added, in the desired color and texture.

Samsung Bespoke system units have a standard length of 59,5cm and depth of 65,8cm, and they are available in two heights, either 185,3cm or 203cm. The outer panels material is either glass or metal, in many different colors and finishes to suit any taste and any ambience: glass panels can have a glossy glam or soft satin finish, and the metal panels are matt, with ceramic texture; they are available in black, lilac, beige, and white, and the coming months will see even more shades, including peach and navy blue.

The Samsung Bespoke series refrigerators are easy to find at electrical appliances retail stores, with a guaranteed Samsung quality and easy use. The only thing necessary is creativity, to build a customized refrigerator, each time one decides to do so.

LG OLED Gallery TV, with a minimalist look, is a new technology screen for domestic use, appearing like an artwork. With its Gallery design, 20mm slender frame and exclusively developed LG OLED Gallery Stand for placement on the floor, the LG television becomes a singular ornamental piece.

Appearing like a tripod, the accompanying stand and accessory LG OLED Gallery Stand, allows the television to be placed freely in space, like an artist’s easel, endowing the screen with a floating impression. The cable management system was designed with a premium appearance, and it is made to look like a stand in an art gallery: the power cord is held inside a special channel on the back leg of the base, and the height of the television is adjustable. On the back side, LG OLED Gallery Stand may further accommodate cables, power sockets and appliances.

The Gallery series design would not have been possible without the OLED technology, an unmatched LG field of expertise. The exceptionally slender OLED frame allowed designers to pursue the uniquely thin and elegant screen they had visualized, and to see it become real.

The LG OLED technology operates without back lighting; self-illuminating pixels provide a new experience of vision: Perfect lines, incredibly slim margin, and exceptionally elegant design. The only thing visible is the screen and nothing else.

At the core of its design, OLED Gallery is a comprehensive screen that can blend in harmoniously into any given space – a notion that LG designers refer to as “added spatial value”.

LG OLED Gallery TV, with a minimalist look, is a new technology screen for domestic use, appearing like an artwork. With its Gallery design, slender frame and exclusively developed mechanism for perfect integration with the wall surface, the LG television becomes a singular ornamental piece. With the Gallery Mode feature, spectators can enjoy world-class landscapes and artworks, in the privacy of their home.

The Gallery series design would not have been possible without the OLED technology, an unmatched LG field of expertise. The exceptionally slender OLED frame allowed designers to pursue the uniquely thin and elegant screen they had visualized, and to see it become real.

The team behind the Gallery remained faithful to its original vision through the entire development process, closely collaborating with LG engineers to deliver a new class of television. The results speak for themselves: an advanced OLED screen with less than 20mm thickness and an integrated, exceptionally slender arm that embraces the wall, remaining completely hidden.

Hager offers a complete range of charging stations for fast, safe and smart charging of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles for both residential and commercial buildings thanks to its robust and ergonomic design, easy installation, build quality and functionality.

Witty charging stations are equipped with a Type 2 socket enhanced with safety shutters for charging in Mode 3, which is the safest and fastest method of charging electric vehicles in AC. Optionally they also support Mode 2 method, when charging through a schuko socket, which offers the possibility of charging the vehicle even if there is no Mode 3 cable available, simply by using the Mode 2 cable offered by the car vendor. Depending on the version, user access can be either free or controlled via RFID cards, installation can be either wall-mounted or floor-standing and because of the IP54 protection, the robust build material (anti-UV polyester/inox) and the IK10 durability it can be safely installed either indoors or outdoors.

On the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus in Weimar, The Athens School of Fine Arts and the State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart are organising an international congress entitled Bauhaus and Greece: The New Idea of Synthesis in Art and Architecture. The congress will be held at the Benaki Museum and the Athens School of Fine Arts on 30 May – 1 June 2019.

Two topics will be dealt with in the three days of the meeting: The first topic is the Bauhaus reception in Greece and other countries before and after the Second World War. In the special case of Greece, the influences of modern European culture on the arts, architecture and art education during these periods will be discussed. The second topic is about other international initiatives that directly or indirectly referred to the Bauhaus or even aimed at its re-founding, such as the project of Mendelsohn, Wijdeveld and Ozenfant to create a Mediterranean Academy, the Black Mountain College in North Carolina, the New Bauhaus in Chicago, the “White City” of Tel Aviv, the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm and others.

About 65 congress participants from Greece and abroad will contribute to these topics. Invited guests from the fields of art and architectural history will address the character and significance of lesser-known aspects of Bauhaus history. Further highlights can be expected during the Athens Bauhaus anniversary. In August 1923, on the occasion of the first major Bauhaus exhibition in Weimar, two concerts with works of modern “classical” music by avant-garde composers of the time such as Ernst Krenek, Paul Hindemith, Ferruccio Busoni and Igor Stravinsky took place. It was, so to speak, a musical counterpart of the Bauhaus, on the basis of a musical paradigm that would later be branded as “degenerate”. These concerts will now be performed again in the Benaki Museum in the evening, in conclusion of each congress day. The last evening will be dedicated to the jazz music of that time, which was known to be one of the musical preferences at theBauhaus. The artistic director of the Athens Bauhaus evenings is conductor George Petrou.

The “Greek contribution” to the Athens Congress will be rounded off with a new edition of the most important interwar publication on modern Greek architecture.
Οn Saturday, April 6, 2019, TEDx NTUA will be held at the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Center (Piraeus 254, 177 78 Tavros),for the fourth time, under the auspices of the National Technical University of Athens. This years theme will be “Enigma”

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today’s leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED’s annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

TED’s open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a “wish,” or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

Follow TED on Twitter at http://twitter.com/TEDTalks, on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/TED.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

TEDxNTUA is held for the fourth time and is organized by NTUA students under the legal foundation of a research project of the institute. The speakers of the conference come from academia, science, art, and the field of social supply. Their speeches share this year’s theme: Enigma. The project is non-profit.

On a social front of cognitive rest, a fertile disruption is crucial. Such a purpose we serve as TEDx NTUA, a discontinuity in the cardiogram of everyday life, a trigger for finding innovative paths. We are a dynamic platform for the dissemination of appreciable ideas, with a multifaceted agenda and eager human resources to support it.

Based on the aforementioned ideology, this year we are exploring the mysterious aspects of Enigma. Human behaviors, unresolved enigmas, artificial intelligence, innovative forms of interaction and transport, are only excerpts from the wide range of issues that will be presented in our event. We seek to challenge, to portray the world as an unsettled Enigma, which sometimes degenerates and sometimes exalts itself from our own unnecessary need to give it an interpretation.
