The design of this bar in Kharkiv, Ukraine, aimed for a feel like shown on American series, where friends hang out in a relaxed atmosphere. The transformation of the small 91.75 sq.m basement with only one window and a low ceiling into such a place was no easy task. The place was stripped to its brick walls, concrete, and metal reinforcement of partition walls. The designers added dark wood, metal bars, exposed wiring and ventilation ducts and came up with an interior that has certain elements of industrial style and an essentially male character which is in keeping with the name of the bar. The basic colour is dark grey, while certain details are highlighted in contrasting yellow. This colour plays an active part not only in finishing details, furniture and décor, but also in lighting (neon, concealed lighting) and in the visual identity of the bar: the logo and the posters on the walls. The removal of multiple layers accumulated over the years enlarged the area, also raising the ceiling height. The redesign of the kitchen and utility rooms allowed more space for one of the halls. The ramp at the entrance prompted a place for a table for a big company. The bar counter has a 9.3-meter long concrete foundation and a wooden countertop with metal patches, where up to twelve guests can sit comfortably. A small room behind the bar counter helped to hide the equipment and save more space for three bartenders. The Goort designed tables and various print objects reflect the brand of the everyday bar. The entrance serves as an open-air extension to the bar – a bench and a small bar counter make a single whole with the entrance structure, an idea much appreciated by visitors and passers-by alike. The whole structure is made of metal painted black. The door is bright yellow, hard to miss in the evening city lights. Design by:
