The architectural profession is at a turning point.
Artificial Intelligence, 3D Printing, Computational Tools, and automation are not only transforming the design process but redefining the entire market. Roles are disappearing, but new skills are also emerging.
The Alexander Innovation Zone (AIZ) invites you to the workshop “Architecture and Innovation in Artificial Intelligence – Opening New Markets”, led by architect Fotis Grammatikopoulos, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 16:00–19:00, at the “Dimitra Iordanidou” event hall, AIZ premises (Filikis Etaireias 12 & Tsimiski, Thessaloniki).
This event marks the first step toward understanding what lies ahead, how to prepare, and how we can – not merely adapt – but create new markets and competitive advantages beyond Greece’s borders. Those who dare first will also be the ones to lead.
Target audience:
Architects, professionals of the built environment, and architecture students who wish to understand how the nature of the profession is changing and to explore practical ways to adapt and lead within the new technological framework.
During the workshop, the following topics will be presented:
- Practical methods for integrating Artificial Intelligence tools (AI Tools & Agents) into the daily operation of architectural practices.
- The role of BIM and digital technologies in decision-making and data integration.
- Case studies highlighting how innovation and interdisciplinarity open new markets and strengthen the architect’s role.
- Applications and skill-upgrading methods based on real examples from firms utilizing Artificial Intelligence.
- Development prospects and competitive advantages for architects, investors, and builders in the new technological landscape.

About the Lecturer
Fotis Grammatikopoulos has over 20 years of professional experience, having collaborated with leading architectural firms in the United Kingdom such as Foster + Partners, Grimshaw, Pascall and Watson, HOK, and WATG. He has also taught at the University of Westminster (London) and Anglia Ruskin University (Cambridge). As a cross-disciplinary designer with a background in architectural innovation, he promotes a holistic approach that fosters collective growth and the creation of new business models. In recent years, his focus has been on how Artificial Intelligence redefines architectural practice – not only in terms of tools, but mainly in terms of roles and business models. He views automation and the loss of certain traditional jobs as an opportunity to create a new type of architect-leader, a professional who acts simultaneously as a designer of systems and use-case scenarios, a connector between disciplines, and a creator of solutions for hybrid environments. This transition is not only about technology but also about the emergence of new markets, formed at the intersection of architecture, strategy, and new forms of work.
