Set on the northern part of Paros Island, in a privileged location near the ancient Mycenaean Acropolis and sandy Kolybithres beach, the country house offers panoramic views to the azure Aegean sea, Naxos Island and the picturesque town of Naoussa.
Reflecting on the organic character of the Cycladic vernacular scape with gradual spatial connections and fluidity between exterior and interior living of the Mediterranean climate, the residential programme is organised in smaller units creating a narrative sequence of spaces between open courtyards, semi-open lounges, pathways, terrace guest rooms, pool area and main house. Set against a steep east-facing slope, the longitudinal axis of the residence is organised North to South, allowing all external and internal areas to enjoy plenty of morning light and unobstructed views towards Naoussa Bay. Parking areas are located on the northern and southern edges of the plot, serving both the main entrance and the secondary one, to the pool area. At the centre of the composition, the main house comprises the living and dining areas, a kitchen and auxiliary rooms on the elevated ground floor; a playroom and two en suite bedrooms are on the semi-basement level; and the master bedroom with a large veranda on the upper level. Three independent guest rooms are placed on either side of the house, with separate entrances.
The 500m2 open pool area accommodates the nexus of the residence – a covered lounge with a monastic dining table that serves as the communal meeting area, an outdoor dining area with custom-made solid wooden table, BBQ and a traditional wood oven. The load-bearing structure is in reinforced concrete while all exterior and interior walls are finished in stucco of earthy hues, balancing the surrounding natural environment. Wooden floors and ceilings, custom-made window frames, wall alcoves, restored antique furniture and rustic decor, add to the warm character of the country house.
