Monocabin is situated in Ιalyssos, on the island of Rhodes, the largest of the Dodecanese islands in Greece, and only a 200 meters walk to the beach.
The project, an architectural prototype that can be placed anywhere in the world, constitutes a small but comfortable house with unusual dimensions, that aims to accentuate the sensation of living in nature by blurring indoor and outdoor space in a unique way.
By exploring a single space house interior, the concept of a holiday getaway is revisited, relating to a larger idea.
Monocabin is the combination of a modular construction proposal showcasing the studio’s own design collection, and an inspirational space, defined as a small gallery dedicated to limited edition contemporary pieces made by artist friends. Unification here is defined as a “laboratory-space” dedicated to all forms of art and life. A space where design directs every functional element of the house, with blinds and custom made furniture ensuring control of the surroundings and providing the visitor with a unique experience.
As well as offering art residencies to artists and designers in low season, part of the accommodation fees will be donated to the Leonardo di Caprio Foundation which is dedicated, as the space itself, to the long term health and well being of the Earth’s ecosystem and communities.
