References to nature
The building is part of a complex of small, three-story holiday homes designed with a strong focus on sustainability. Nestled at an altitude of 980 meters on the slopes of Parnassos, it sits beside a rocky stream, surrounded by fir and chestnut trees.
Design Philosophy
The interior design draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, enclosed within a shell of local stone and clad in native timber. The result is a contemporary aesthetic that seamlessly blends architecture with the natural environment.
Custom Structures
A perforated dark grey steel surface with a geometric pattern serves as the central visual and functional element of the two upper floors. This double-height divider conceals the metal staircase connecting the living area to the mezzanine while allowing natural light to flow through the space. The perforations also enhance illumination for a second wooden staircase that leads to the ground floor, where the bedrooms, bathroom, and sauna are located.
Materials & Lighting
The bold, dark metal contrasts with the smooth white walls and the natural-toned chestnut beams on the ceiling. The curved form and grey hue of the sofa, along with the circular stools, subtly reference the local stone. The kitchen features dark steel finishes and fabric-covered chairs, complemented by a custom-made wooden dining table. Bathrooms are clad in dark grey marble with delicate white veining, while matte black steel fixtures enhance the design without overpowering the space.
